If you’ve written a book, odds are you’re swimming in publishing options and you don’t know where to turn. Cape House Books may be for you.
Cape House Books is a collaborative book publishing company, the newest kid on the proverbial publishing block. Our goal is to financially and professionally empower and reward the whole creative team that produces our books, foremost the author without whom none of this would be possible.
A variety of independent collaborative publishing business models are emerging because they are efficient, effective, and make sense for all concerned.
On this page:
First, let’s look at what it is not.
It is not traditional publishing, meaning we don’t pay you an advance — kudos to anyone able to land one these days — and we don’t leak book sales money to the process of warehousing, transporting, and returning books from bookstores.
It is not subsidy publishing, meaning we don’t present your book amid a field of thousands of uneven quality on a website that a potential reader must know to look for and will probably miss.
It is not self-publishing, in which the author assumes the responsibility of finding, assessing, assembling, coordinating, and paying a team of experts in every area that publishing a good book requires.
Collaborative publishing is an option that makes sense for authors by combining the selective literary standards of a traditional publishing company and the distribution power of new technologies.
If we decide that your story is a good fit for one of our imprints, and displays or promises the high quality we require, we’ll talk. At that time we’ll show you our contract, complete with a menu of options to launch your book. There are many good and effective avenues you can follow and one may be right for you.
If you do not want to sign on with any publishing house and yet require help with your book, there’s another way to work with Cape House.
We offer a full complement of services that can be employed to edit, design, create, and set up your book for sales. Instead of signing a contract, we’ll charge you on an hourly basis.
We know that Cape House Books and its efficiencies and intimate approach to publishing will be perfect for many authors. We also realize it’s not for everyone. We invite authors to explore all options and pick the one that best fits their needs and dreams.
But know that, if we mutually collaborate on your dream book, we will do all in our power to make the experience worthwhile, exciting, and satisfying. That’s the way publishing should be. After all, we understand that a book often is a personal legacy that imparts meanings you want to share with the world now and with generations to come.
